John Bernard Books (The Shootist) A small look inside I'm not quite sure what to say. I started this journal in early July 2005 in an effort to help express myself, the conflict I had in being in the closet, and finding friends who would be cool with who I am. I came out in October of 2005. The friends I've made here have been and continue to be critically important and their support is something I could not have gone without. I've already had the perfect story-book life. I was a father at 17 , went off to school with with wife and child in tow. I've raised 2 kids, have had the wife/house/family/white-picket-fence thing and am very happy to have been there. I use to think I was a complex guy but I'm not so sure anymore. I'm into more things than I should be - push myself in extreme sports (if you can't die doing it, then what's the point) and am happier now than I ever have been. My friends tell me that they never think of me as being anything other than just like them; and I certainly feel the same about everyone I meet regardless of age. I'm a surfer, a jazz trombonist, a drummer, a die-hard soccer player (winger), kayaker, rock-climber, a wanna-be skydiver, kite-boarder, reader, conversationalist, collector, obsessive, and most of all - a good friend. In talking to a friend recently we described our desires, how we viewed girls, guys - the whole concept of sexuality. As firmly as my friend is straight I am without question gay but now I know for a fact that the BI side of me is maybe 10%. I am attracted to guys, it's natural and it's who I am. I'm spiritually into Buddhism. Not a psycho - promise, but know that in looking at the life we lead it is apparent that "been there, done that" is not just a saying. The one constant that I've learned in my life is that I am defined by how I treat others, how I give of myself. To understand me more I'm essentially ENFJ - Click-it to Learn - or so I am professionally told ;). Some things that are important to me... Be true to yourself and kind to others. Think deep and have compassion for all people. Recognize beauty and joy in the smallest things. Be confident, yet humble. Question, always. But most importantly, Live Epically.
